Khmer Wedding Dress
Khmer wedding dress is a unique cultural heritage that reflects ancient beliefs and traditions. In a Khmer wedding, the bride and groom often change several sets of clothes (usually 4 to 7 sets) for each ceremony.
Main types of clothing for each ceremony:
1- Monk Blessings: Use soft colors or navy/black to show purity and auspiciousness when receiving blessings from the monks.
2- Hair Cutting: Usually use bright colors such as yellow, gold or red to represent the beginning of a new life and freshness.
3- Groom Parade: The bride usually wears a white or light green dress with luxurious embroidery.
4- Knot Tying: This is the most important set, representing the legend of "Preah Thong, the Dragon Veil". The groom must hold the bride's veil and walk into the room after the hand-tying ceremony is over.
Clothing Components
1- Khun Khun or Khun Phan: Made of hand-woven cloth or Pham Muang with unique designs.
2- Sbai: A long cloth that covers the shoulders, showing the gentleness and dignity of Khmer women.
3- Jewelry: Including crowns, necklaces, gold belts and bracelets, all of which are symbols of wealth and prosperity.
Currently, it is popular to use the traditional Sbai Phan style again and to make it more modern, but still maintaining the original traditional look.
